neighborhood safety
So far this month there have been three robberies (that I know of) within two blocks of my apartment, two of which were at gunpoint. One happened at 6:30am, one at 3pm and one at 10pm. It's dark by 5pm now. I have to walk home from class at 7:30pm two nights a week.

I don't feel safe.

I'm not scared or fearful but I do not feel safe. I'm aware of my surroundings, aware of who is around me, I don't carry cash.

Gee, I'd like to feel safe walking home. Or walking from my car to my home.

Just needed to vent.

That's so scary. My neighborhood has had some problems, but not that bad, except for the shooting of the ice cream man, and the stray bullets. Anyway, I try to look like I don't have anything worth stealing. Like I don't wear name brand shoes or coats, even if I see them at a thrift shop. I don't know if it helps.

I wonder if this is the same ice cream man as from my neighborhood, I'm in Rogers Park? I noticed that I hadn't heard his truck in a while. Of course, I always wondered if he was REALLY just an ice cream man, as he only seemed to come around after 10pm on weeknights. Regardless, the whole thing just isn't right.

No, I live near Washington, DC, just over the Maryland line. He was shot in broad daylight, about 1 PM on a Saturday for about $26 in small bills and change. But he did live. They later arrested a 13 year old and a 15 year old for it.

That's unbelievable. What does a child go through to think that's acceptible?! I'm glad he lived and that they caught the kids. I imagine none of their lives will ever be the same. That's so sad.
